Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is used to reach the connective tissue (the deeper layer of muscles) under the superficial layer of fascia on the body to release chronic tension.  Deep tissue massage uses higher pressure, slower strokes and concentrates on specific areas of the body in comparison to relaxation or Swedish massage.  Pressure is applied slow and deliberately using not only the hands and fingers, but also the forearms, elbows, and knuckles.  Since the work in unhurried and focused, a deep tissue massage will not necessarily address every area of the body as a relaxation massage would.

Deep tissue massage is commonly used by athletes or individuals whose jobs require them to do a lot of physical activity.  It can also be beneficial on injuries or emotional trauma that may be kept in the physical body.  Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable.  Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment.

It is STRONGLY recommended that half your body weight in ounces of water be ingested for 3 days post-massage to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins released during the session.  For example: If you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking 75 ounces of water a day for three days.
